| Peace of Mind Gift Annuity |
War interrupted Walter Kunze's Citadel education. He first enrolled in the fall of 1941, enthusiastic and looking forward to the next four years. However, two years after walking through The Citadel's gates, he was called to serve his country in WWII. In the fall of 1946, after being discharged from the Army, where he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart, Walter returned to The Citadel as a veteran student and started again. He is a proud member of the Class of 1949.
Since 1941, Walter has had a great deal of respect for The Citadel, so when he was invited to consider how to give back, he found an appealing way to provide lasting support for his alma mater. Walter and his wife, Frances, decided to give a parcel of real estate to The Citadel Foundation in exchange for a life income gift through a Charitable Gift Annuity. Walter and Frances liked the idea of receiving a steady income stream for both of their lives, then giving the remainder interest to The Citadel.
Once the gift is received by The Citadel Foundation it will be used to help maintain the school's high standards, both academically and militarily.
WALTER: "I wanted to do whatever I could to help The Citadel continue to rise and stay above the ordinary."
Walter and Frances continue to enjoy the dependable income from their charitable gift annuity and are also satisfied that their gift will help keep The Citadel academically and militarily sound for generations to come.
